Martina Bex - The Comprehensible Classroom
                                                                                                                                Session 1
                                                               ASSESSMENT FOR ACQUISITION
It is time-consuming and mentally exhausting to develop assessments that are accurate, concise, and novel. In this session, the work has been done for you! Participants will leave this session with multiple templates for reading, listening, writing, and speaking assessments that work well in standards-based, comprehension-based courses. They will learn how to use these templates in isolation and how to combine them for IPAs and other benchmark assessments.

                                                                                                                               Session 2
(whole group session)
                                                                                        BEYOND TPRS
TPRS is a powerful way for teachers to develop the skills required to provide quality comprehensible input to language learners. Once they’ve graduated from ‘The School of TPRS” with a command of basic skills like circling, checking for comprehension, and personalization, however, many teachers are happy to discover that there are an infinite number of ways to build language proficiency without story-asking! Experience CI activities that are both engaging and effective, and learn how to facilitate and implement the same activities in your own classroom.

Kara Jacobs, Kingswood Regional High School, NH
                                                                                              session 1
Comprehensifying and Extending a music video
Do you use music and music videos in class? Would you like to make them even more comprehensible and extend them in your classroom? This session will share a CI story unit based on an authentic song and music video: Pesca´Ito by Carlos Vives. Attendees will see how an authentic music video and song can be turned into an entire CI story unit with culture embedded, Essential Questions, "I can" statements, and a focus on the three modes of communication. Attendees will also leave this session with a wealth of resources for this unit, as well as four other similar units.
                                                                                                                               session 2

Simple, repetitive stories/descriptions with a reward for listening!
This session will share a fun, effective, engaging tool to add to your 90% toolbox! Songs and music videos are full of culture and an instant hook with students. This session will share ways to do a Story/Song of the Week for Spanish 1 (and above) in a story telling way. Demonstrations, techniques, and resources (in Spanish) will be shared.

Participants will learn how to build a foundation of high-frequency phrases and vocabulary with their first-year students.  The fundamental skills of circling, pause and point, going SLOWLY, and checking for understanding will be modeled continuously.  Those who wish to may participate as members of the class, learning German; others are free to simply observe.  THIS IS ANNE'S TRIED AND TRUE INTRO SESSION FOR THOSE WHO ARE BRAND NEW AND/OR JUST NOT COMFORTABLE USING CI YET.

The One-Word-Image:  Non-Targeted CI
A story that is based on a class-created character (as opposed to a script, a theme, or a set of structures) engages students like nothing else.  In this session Anne will demonstrate how to create a character from a one-word image and build a story from it.
