SCHOLARSHIPS |
Claudette Moran Scholarship - Drawn annually on Friday afternoon for a full 2 day registration fee for the next year.
Claudette was a loyal attendee and the exemplar of family. When her personal family needed her, Claudette moved west without hesitation. We have it on very good authority, she was the same way in her classroom & school. As a way to honor her giving & selfless spirit and pay it forward (sometimes on faith!) we have committed to provide one 2-day registration every year since 2014.
Steve Parrett Scholarship-
Steve was teaching with comprehensible input long before it was cool. Steve dedicated his teaching career to the MSAD 58 community. Located deep in the Western Mountains, MSAD 58 includes the towns of Phillips, Avon, Kingfield, Strong and the Unorganized Territories with a total enrollment of approximately 580 students. This district covers over 500 square miles. Steve has attended TCI Maine every year since our first meeting in 2006. In fact, it could be said that his amazing former colleague (Alice Yates) started TCI Maine when she began by bringing in Blaine Ray as early as 2004. In 2005 Skip reached out to her very last minute and she negotiated his attending in exchange for him taking over the conference. But I digress... Steve attended faithfully every year, even covering the expenses out of pocket when needed (more often than not.) Steve formally announced he was retiring at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Skip asked Steve what kept him coming back all these years and this was his reply;
"The TCI Fall Conference you all put together is always like going home for Thanksgiving. Folks are so caring and informative. They ask great questions and give great advice.The food is home made and plenty of it! My favorite thing to do... Anna Matava's German, to get a refresher on what it's like to be our students. That's humbling to remember..... Also, to see the guest maestras y maestros work their craft demos is enlightening. The new, latest and greatest ideas always gives me new things to try with my kids."
If reimbursement from your school is not possible and the conference registration fee poses a barrier to your attending, please reach out directly to Skip & Beth at [email protected] regarding the Steve Parrett scholarship.
